I live in Jersey City and went to the Journal Square store for the blood draw for the 8:15 am appointment on 9/25/19. The guy that took all the information I believe was Angel?.

After the paperwork, he proceeded to do the blood draw. To my surprise, he tied the tourniquet extra tight. I was caught off guard and told him to take it off because my skin got caught under the tourniquet. He refused and I started pulling on it and I managed to get it off.

He said it has to be tight. So he went for it again the second time. I thought he would do it less tight. This time, he tied it and pulled on it twice making it still extra tight.

He made it so tight that the tourniquet formed a string-like rope around my arm. I looked at my arm and it was turning red/purple. I held off talking to as long as I can tolerate the pain. Then when he was finished, I said to him, โ€œYou do a good job, but you did not need to make it so tight.โ€ He did not look at me or responded.

I am a registered nurse licensed in both NY and NJ. I have done tons of blood draws and this was not necessary at all. I went into the bathroom and I took pictures of my arm. You will see in the pictures that my arm had a leftover ring from the tourniquet being so tight.

I took pictures right after the draw where I was in the bathroom in the store. Then I took it when I got home, an hour later, and I still had marks. I have a timeline of the events. I am writing to you because I know there are many patients out there who are afraid to say something and donโ€™t know better, a lot of elderly people have skin that are like paper thin, and young people who canโ€™t say anything.

I personally felt that this guy actually enjoyed making it tight and watch people hurt. I am requesting a thorough investigation and suggesting retraining or firing of this employee. This was not at all something I would want anyone to encounter. I would like to see an anonymous supervisor go in for a blood draw to see how it feels.

Maybe what I said got to him? But I doubt it. I am eagerly awaiting a reply before I take further steps.

This is not acceptable. I have never written such a letter and I hope I do not have to write another such letter in the future.

Reason of review: Poor customer service.

Preferred solution: I want acknowledgement from upper management regarding this issue.
